Asset Management Plan and Financial Sufficiency Workshops

Three (3) Asset Management Plan and Financial Sufficiency Workshops will be held in late April / early May for Tennessee water and wastewater system operators, managers, and board members. One workshop will be held in each TN region – see below for workshop dates, times, locations, and other details. These workshops are hosted by the Tennessee Water Resources Research Center and the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture.

These workshops are offered at no cost to attendees. Lunch will be provided. Pre-registration is required.

Attendees may earn up to four (4) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Credits. Two (2) credit hours may be earned for attending the first session on Asset Management Plans, and two (2) credit hours may be earned for attending the second session on Financial Sufficiency.

Attendees of the workshops will:

  • be able to provide an overview of asset management, including its 5 components, its historical development, and its importance to management infrastructure systems.
  • learn how to develop an asset inventory.
  • learn how to develop levels of service for each asset.
  • learn how to conduct a risk analysis of their systems.
  • learn the fundamentals of developing O&M and Capital Improvement Plans, and about funding options.
  • learn how to define financial sufficiency,
  • learn the four steps of financial planning
  • learn about the annual budgeting process
  • learn how to develop a basic financial plan,
  • learn to identify funding options

Attendees will also be pointed to a variety of asset management planning resources, including an AMP template for small systems and a self-assessment that can help systems identify areas where improvement is needed. Additionally, attendees will be able to calculate key financial indicators for their utility to assess their financial sufficiency.
